On the evening of Dec 3, 2010, the Travel & Hotel trade paid tribute to a distinguished gentleman, whose exemplary contribution to Singapore’s tourism industry, makes him a deserving recipient of the inaugural PATA Singapore Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award. He is more than a familiar face to all in the travel/Tourism trade, having been a prolific personality in the travel scene since 1961.
While many know him as the big boss of World Express Travel Group, he has numerous credentials to his name. This includes being one of then Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (STPB)’s pioneer board members, board member of PATA as well as being the head honcho of Singapore Travel Agents Association, SKAL Club Singapore, PATA Honours Committee and PATA Singapore Chapter.
He is a living example that passion can certainly take you places. This once young police officer left chasing criminals behind and has never looked back. He worked hard from the ground up and credits much of his achievements to his personal relationships and networks. Being a people person, he says in his own words that “this takes the chore out of his responsibilities and duties”. Till today, his passion to the industry remains firm and he continues to advise the PATA Singapore Chapter as “Mentor”.
It is no wonder that he is a multiple award recipient, including the PATA Award of Merit and PATA Life Member, the highest honour bestowed by PATA HQ. At the PATA/SKAL annual dinner he will add one more to his trophy list - this year’s inaugural PATA Singapore Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award !
