Pasta Brava was founded by Sunday chef & travel entrepreneur, Tan Chee Chye of the World Express Group. When a rare opportunity came in 1988 to purchase two Chinatown shop-houses in Tanjong Pagar, World Express did something of a first for a local travel company – opening an Italian restaurant. The beautiful pair of conservation houses were lovingly restored to its exquisite turn-of-the-century architecture.

Pasta Brava opened its doors in 1991 – when there were only 5 Italian restaurants in Singapore! Then and now, going to Pasta Brava is to step inside a dear friend’s home, with a hand-picked mix of Peranakan, Italian, and Balinese antiques and artifacts. World Express ran Pasta Brava in the early years under Chye’s watchful eye and discerning taste buds. By word of mouth, it quickly became known for reliable and delicious Italian cuisine in a charming and eclectic setting.

Hotelier Rolando Luceri was invited to come on board to run the restaurant’s operations in 1993. Under Luceri’s leadership, Pasta Brava firmly established itself as one of Singapore’s top Italian restaurants, winning a string of culinary awards and accolades. After more than 20 years at Pasta Brava, Luceri decided to return home to Italy to be closer to his family.

In early 2017, another chapter began with Luceri’s goddaughter, Sofi Sui, taking over Pasta Brava’s management. Sofi, a true simpatico fit, continues Luceri’s dedication to the freshest ingredients, mouth-watering Italian cuisine, and attentive service, in a lovely and serene space.
